I love bats! They have been a subject of personal interest since I was in 8th grade. In fact for my school's science fair I did my science project on the global importance bats have on our planet. I educated so many people on the importance of bats that my science project won 2nd place out of the whole school science fair.   I feel as an advocate and fan of bats to educate anyone who reads this 1st post. Bats are the only flying mammals and make about one-fifth of all mammal species. Their family is so large its split up in two sub families megachiroptera and microchiroptera. Megachiroptera is made up of the largest bats called flying foxes. They are fruit eaters and are responsible for replenishing many of the world's tropical rain forest trees. Microchiroptera is made up of nectar, fish, meat, blood and insect eating bats. There have been so many myths about bats that have lead to fear and wrongful persecution. For example bats are blind. On the contrary bat are not blind, they're color blind and near sighted which why bats use echolocation to find food in the dark of the night. Myth number two: bats have rabies. Not true bats can carry rabies but cases of infected bats have only been found in highly populated cities. Okay well here are important bat facts that most people don't know. Future posts will include more information on bats, horses wolves and my life.
